What an incredible weekend it’s been for MMA fans! At least, it was on Friday. Fans were treated to loaded Bellator, Legacy and Invicta cards, with championships capping off each card. Bellator’s ‘British Invasion’ saw Paul Daley returning to the promotion, a bunch of finishes, and rising prospect Liam McGeary upsetting then Light Heavyweight champion Emmanuel Newton in a controversial decision.
At Invicta 11, ever fight was exciting, and the night was culminated with one of the two greatest female fighters in the planet, Cyborg, destroyed Charmaine Tweet. Each fight was an exciting one.
The other great female, Ronda Rousey, will defend her belt tonight at UFC 184. Unfortunately, UFC 184 is far from great on paper. It’s been ravaged by injuries, and isn’t even worth $6, much less the $60 ppv charge. Alas, here’s my main card predictions.
Tony Ferguson over Gleison Tibau via decision
Alan Jouban over Richard Walsh via 2nd round tko
Josh Koscheck over Jake Ellenberger via split decision
Holly Holm over Raquel Pennington via unanimous decision
Women’s Bantamweight Championship:
(c) Ronda Rousey (10-0) vs. (1) Cat Zingano (9-0)
Finally, a fight worthy of some discussion. I must admit that I’m a huge fan of Cat ZIngano. It’s been that way since before she entered the UFC, or even Invicta! Her story is inspirational, as are her fights. That said, she’s a notoriously slow starter. Unfortunately for her, Rousey is anything but. If she starts slow again, she’s toast. If she starts early and avoids the submissions, anything is possible.
Head pick: Ronda Roused via 1st round armbar. Heart pick: Cat Zingano via 4th round tko.
