NFL fans, week 3 is here! And opening up this week’s action is a divisional match up that was once viewed as irrelevant, but has become important overnight.
That’s because the Giants find themselves in an 0-2 hole, while the Skins have an opportunity to start off their season with a 2-1 mark.
Due to the turmoil surrounding their division, the Redskins are being viewed as perhaps the most stable team in it! They have played well on defense, and have been pretty solid on offense as well. Alfred Morris has been solid, as always, while backup running back Matt Jones had a coming out party last week against the Rams.
Meanwhile, the Giants have been perplexing, to say the least. They were expected to lose by double-digit in Dallas in Week 1, but several dubious mistakes by the Cowboys resulted in a shocking double-digit lead for the Giants. However, due to a leaky defense and horrible clock management by quarterback Eli Manning, they gave up the lead with just 12 seconds remaining, and lost 27-26 in heartbreaking fashion.
Then, in Week 2, they led against the Falcons for most of the game. However, Manning made mistakes again, and the Giants lost another close game that they should have won.
Now, the Giants find themselves in desperation mode. Another home loss, this time to a bitter rival, could be as devastating as any in the league.
However, I don’t see them falling tonight. Eli typically dominates against the Redskins, including seven touchdowns to zero picks last season against them. Also last year, the Giants played against the Redskins on Thursday night, with many expecting the Redskins to win. Go figure, Eli dominated, Kirk Cousins was a turnover machine, and the end result was 45-14 in the Giants’ favor.
While I don’t believe the Giants will dominate like that tonight, I do see them winning handily. They should be 2-0, and their competition thus far has been better than what Washington can put up. They will take the lead early, and win with relative ease.
Prediction: Redskins 17, Giants 34.
