UFC 194 prelim picks

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s finally here! UFC 194 is set to occur tonight!

MMA’s biggest grudge match since Sonnen/Silva 2 will headline the card, as Featherweight Paper Champion Conor McGregor will try to get the real belt from longtime champion Jose Aldo. In the co-headliner, Luke Rockhold will try to take Chris Weidman’s Middleweight belt, and the rest of teh main card is stacked as well!

The prelims aren’t as great, but should still be fun. Headlined by former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber, the prelims are chock full of fun bouts. Who will win in the slate? Here are my picks.

Fight Pass prelims (6:30/5:30c, UFC Fight Pass)

Court McGee (16-4) vs. Marcio Alexandre, Jr. (11-2)

The first fight is a Welterweight matchup featuring one of the greatest stories in MMA. Court McGee may not be the most notable fighter out there, but his story is quite an inspirational one.

Once a heroin addict, McGee was declared clinically dead back in 2005 due to an overdose. He was resuscitated, and has been clean ever since. What’s more is that he goes from place to place to help others recover from their addictions.

He’s also a decent fighter, having won Season 11 of the Ultimate Fighter as a substitute back in 2011, and holding a 5-3 record inside the octagon. This is his first fight in two years, as he’s been recovering from a hand injury.

His opponent, Alexandre, began his career 11-0. He has lost both of his UFC fights to date, however, and another one tonight could result in a pink slip for him. Sadly, I see that being the case, as McGee comes away with another decision victory. Prediction: McGee via decision.

John Makdessi (13-5) vs. Yancy Medeiros

The next fight is a Lightweight bout that could be on any Fight Night main card. However, it has been slotted on the Fight Pass portion of the card of the year.

Both men are action fighters who constantly bring it. Makdessi is a black belt in Taekwondo and Shotokan Karate. Yesterday marked the five-year anniversary of his UFC debut, in which he defeated Pat Audinwood. He has gone 6-4 inside the octagon, and is returning after a grueling jaw injury back in May caused him to ponder retirement.

On the other side is Yancy Medeiros.

Prediction: Makdessi via unanimous decision.

Magomed Mustafaev vs. Joe Proctor

Prediction: Mustafaev via submission, round 2.

FS1 Prelims (8/7c, FS1)

Kevin Lee vs. Leandro Santos

Prediction: Lee via decision

Warlley Alves vs. Colby Covington

Prediction: Alves via decision

Tecia Torres vs. Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger (6-1)

Like Torres, Lybarger is a decision machine. She got the short notice call-up due to a 4-0 stint with RFA, which has become a feeder organization for the UFC.  All four of those fights, as well as six of her seven career fights, have gone to decision.

Prediction: Torres via unanimous decision.

Urijah Faber vs. (13) Frankie Saenz

Prediction: Faber via submission, round 2.
